Beyond the tutorial: How Kavindu is bringing education and trading technology together at Binary Campus

For Kavindu, the founder of Binary Campus, trading began with an interest in analytical thinking and developed into a business that combines education, community, and software.

What started as a YouTube channel sharing trading tutorials has grown into a community of more than 83,000 subscribers at the time of this interview. Alongside educational videos, Kavindu has developed PivotCore and BotTradeLab, tools shaped by the questions and challenges he encounters among his audience.

In this Partner Spotlight interview, he discusses the beginnings of Binary Campus, his approach to creating technical content, and how his Deriv partnership has supported his work as an educator and developer.

The beginning of Binary Campus

Before the tutorials and trading applications came a personal interest in understanding the markets. Kavindu explains how that curiosity became a reason to teach.

Kavindu, let's start with your story. Can you tell us a little about yourself and what first sparked your interest in trading?

I started my trading journey around 2020. By nature, I have always been someone who enjoys analytical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic challenges. I am naturally drawn to activities that require deep thought rather than routine work. When I discovered financial trading, that intellectual aspect immediately sparked my interest. I realised that trading isn't about luck, it is a discipline that requires analysing data, understanding market behavior, and making calculated decisions under pressure. That mental challenge is what hooked me from day one.

How did your interest in trading eventually lead you toward teaching others?

Once I put in the time to study the markets and began achieving consistent results, I noticed that many aspiring traders in my community were struggling, mostly because they lacked structured, honest technical guidance. Since I already loved breaking down complex problems step by step, sharing what I had learned felt like a natural next step. I wanted to show people that with the right analytical mindset and proper risk management, trading is a skill anyone can learn systematically.

You're the founder of Binary Campus, which has become a popular educational channel for traders. What inspired you to start creating trading content on YouTube?

Creating content on YouTube was actually a long-time dream of mine. As I became successful and confident in my own trading, I had a realisation: I could combine my passion for YouTube with the exact trading skills and knowledge that helped me succeed. That is how Binary Campus was born. I started creating Deriv-related trading tutorials to share practical, real-world strategies and help others navigate the markets with confidence.

When you first started, did you imagine your channel would grow into the community it is today?

Honestly, when I uploaded my first few videos, my only goal was to pursue my passion for content creation and share genuine knowledge that could help someone trade better. While I believed in the value of the content I was creating, seeing Binary Campus grow into a thriving community of over 83,000 subscribers, and evolving into a platform that also builds trading software, has been both humbling and incredibly rewarding.

Growing a YouTube community

As Binary Campus developed, Kavindu concentrated on making technical subjects easier to follow. He identifies both a consistent teaching approach and a particular tutorial as important parts of that growth.

Your YouTube channel now has over 83,000 subscribers, which is an impressive milestone. What do you think has been the biggest factor behind that growth?

I believe the biggest factor has been consistency and practicality. In the trading space, there is a lot of noise and unrealistic promises. From the beginning, I focused on delivering clear, step-by-step technical education that beginners and intermediate traders could actually understand and apply, without unnecessary complexity. When viewers see that your tutorials genuinely help them read the market better and avoid common mistakes, word spreads naturally and trust builds quickly.

Was there a particular video or moment that helped your channel reach a wider audience?

Yes, a major turning point for the channel was a comprehensive tutorial I created on Candlestick Patterns. Because reading candlestick patterns and price action is the foundational language of every market, whether you are trading Forex, Gold, or Deriv's Synthetic Indices, that video resonated with a massive audience. It brought in a huge wave of new viewers and established Binary Campus as a trusted hub for technical trading education.

Content creation strategies

His audience also helps determine what comes next. Questions in YouTube comments and Telegram discussions give Kavindu a direct view of the topics learners find difficult.

You've built your audience primarily through technical tutorials. How do you decide what topics to cover, and what have you learned about creating content that keeps viewers engaged?

I decide on topics primarily by listening to my community. Through YouTube comments and our Telegram channel, I see the exact areas where traders get stuck, whether it's understanding chart patterns, setting up platforms, or managing risk. What I have learned about keeping viewers engaged during technical tutorials is that simplicity and visual clarity are everything. Instead of overwhelming viewers with theory, I go straight to the charts, demonstrate the process live, and explain the why behind every step so they stay engaged from start to finish.

What advice would you give to a new Deriv Partner who wants to start creating educational videos but doesn't know where to begin?

Start with the fundamentals and focus on solving one specific problem in each video. You don't need an expensive studio setup to begin, just screen-record your charts and explain something that helped you when you were a beginner, such as how to set up an account, how a specific indicator works, or how to place a trade properly. Authenticity and clear value matter far more to an audience than flashy production.

Becoming a Deriv Partner

Kavindu describes the partnership as part of the foundation that helped him expand Binary Campus beyond video content. He also reflects on taking part in Deriv’s TradingView Content Competition.

Let's talk about your partnership with Deriv. What initially attracted you to Deriv, and how has the partnership supported your journey as a content creator and educator?

What initially attracted me to Deriv is how comprehensive and innovative the ecosystem is. Whether a trader is interested in Options, 24/7 Synthetic Indices, Forex, or Commodities on MT5, or automated trading through Deriv Bot and TradingView integration, everything is accessible under one reliable platform. As an educator, having a user-friendly and trustworthy platform makes teaching much more effective. Becoming a Deriv Partner gave me a sustainable foundation to dedicate more time to producing high-quality free education and investing in building custom tools for my community.

What opportunities has being a Deriv Partner opened up for you?

Being a Deriv Partner has allowed me to transform Binary Campus from a simple YouTube channel into a complete educational and technology brand. It gave me the resources and motivation to develop applications like PivotCore and BotTradeLab, connect with a wider network of traders and creators, and challenge myself in global partner initiatives.

You also recently won first place in Deriv's TradingView Content Competition. Congratulations! Can you tell us a little about your experience participating in the competition and what winning meant to you?

Thank you! Participating in the competition was a fantastic experience, and winning first place meant a great deal to both me and the Binary Campus community. As a creator who puts a lot of thought and effort into making technical tutorials easy to follow, having that work recognised with first place by Deriv was a proud validation of our educational approach.

‍

What inspired your winning content, and what advice would you give to other partners who want to take part in similar opportunities?

For my winning entry, I created a complete, step-by-step guide on how to trade Forex on Deriv. In that video, I covered the entire workflow—from creating and configuring a Deriv MT5 account to connecting and analyzing the markets using TradingView, along with everything a beginner needs to know to get started smoothly. I was inspired to make it because many new traders feel intimidated when connecting multiple platforms for the first time. My advice to other partners is to always put yourself in the viewer's shoes: create content that leaves zero confusion, make it practical, and never hesitate to enter these competitions because they push you to raise your standards as a creator.

Trading education and mentorship

Understanding the reasoning behind a decision is a recurring theme in Kavindu’s teaching. Here, he explains the foundations he wants beginners to develop and how risk management informs his educational work.

As a mentor, you help people understand everything from Forex and Gold to Deriv options and MT5. What do you think are the most important skills a beginner should focus on before getting into trading?

Before worrying about making profits, a beginner should focus on three core skills: analytical thinking, reading price action (such as candlestick behavior), and emotional patience. Trading requires using your mind strategically rather than reacting impulsively. Beginners should take the time to understand how different markets behave, master their trading platform on a demo account first, and treat trading as a skill-based profession rather than a shortcut to quick money.

How do you encourage your community to approach risk management and trading responsibly?

I constantly remind my community that you cannot control the market, but you can always control your risk. In my tutorials and discussions, I emphasise having a strict daily trading plan, knowing your exact stop-loss, target profit, and position size before entering any trade. In fact, because many traders struggle to stick to rules emotionally, I even built dedicated risk management systems directly into my software tools so our community members can enforce discipline automatically while they trade.

Developing trading tools

The move into software came from observing how trading fits around other responsibilities. Kavindu describes the needs that prompted him to develop PivotCore and BotTradeLab.

One thing that really stands out about your journey is that you've gone beyond creating educational content to developing your own trading applications, including PivotCore and BotTradeLab. What inspired you to start building these tools?

The inspiration came from looking at today's fast-paced lifestyle. Most people in my community have full-time jobs, studies, or personal commitments, meaning they are very busy and simply cannot sit in front of charts for hours analyzing every market move. I wanted to use modern technology to give them a smart, practical solution.

With PivotCore, I built a platform specifically to empower Options traders with live market insights, allowing them to read real-time market data clearly and make informed decisions quickly. It also includes both standard built-in risk management tools and Binary Campus's own proprietary risk management systems, alongside trading automation features.

With BotTradeLab, I wanted to make automated trading on Deriv Bot (DBot) effortless for everyone. Normally, when traders use DBot, they either have to build a bot from scratch or spend hours searching online for reliable bot files. To solve that completely, I built BotTradeLab with over 1,800+ in-built DBots ready for users to access and use within a single, user-friendly system.

What challenges were you trying to solve for traders when you developed them?

I was solving three main challenges:

  1. Lack of time: Helping busy traders analyse and participate in the market without spending hours glued to a screen.
  2. Accessibility in automation: Removing the technical hurdle of coding or hunting for bots by providing 1,800+ ready-to-use DBots inside BotTradeLab.
  3. Data reading and emotional discipline: Giving Options traders live market data insights and automated, custom risk management frameworks inside PivotCore so they don't blow their accounts due to emotional decisions.

How trading tools support decisions and automation

For Kavindu, developing tools and teaching people how to use them are closely connected. He shares his perspective on automation and what learners should understand before using it.

Technology is playing an increasingly important role in trading. From your experience developing trading tools, how do you think technology can help traders improve their understanding of the markets and their decision-making?

Technology helps traders by removing guesswork and human emotion, two of the biggest reasons traders fail. When you have tools that process live market data into clear visual insights, as PivotCore does, you can immediately see market momentum and conditions objectively instead of guessing. And when you pair that with automation and built-in risk rules, technology ensures that your strategy is executed with 100% discipline, even when you have a busy schedule.

What advice would you give to someone interested in learning more about trading automation?

My advice is to view trading automation as a smart assistant, not a magic button. First, understand how the market works and how risk management systems, like stop-losses, take-profits, and stake management, function. Always test any automated bot on a Demo account first to understand how it performs in different market conditions, and combine automation with strict risk limits.

Building trust and engagement

The relationship with his audience continues between uploads. Kavindu explains how Telegram discussions and viewer feedback influence both his teaching and his software.

With such a large online audience, building trust and maintaining engagement must be important. How do you keep your community connected and ensure your content continues to provide value?

Beyond YouTube, I stay closely connected with my community through Telegram. It serves as a direct bridge where I share updates, market insights, educational resources, and tool improvements. Trust comes from consistency and genuinely caring about your audience's results. Instead of just posting videos and disappearing, we provide continuous mentorship, listen to their daily trading challenges, and build actual software solutions to help them succeed.

How do you handle feedback from your audience, and has it influenced the content or tools you create?

Audience feedback shapes almost everything I do. Whether it's a question in the YouTube comments or discussions in our Telegram community, I treat every piece of feedback as an opportunity to improve. In fact, both PivotCore and BotTradeLab, from the custom Binary Campus risk management modes to expanding our library to 1,800+ built-in bots, were shaped directly by seeing what our community members needed most to make their trading simpler and safer.

Challenges and lessons learned

Expanding Binary Campus has also meant managing several demanding roles. Kavindu reflects on the work behind maintaining a channel, supporting learners, and developing applications.

Building a YouTube channel, mentoring traders, and developing applications all require a lot of dedication. What's been one of the biggest challenges you've faced, and what did you learn from overcoming it?

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing all three roles simultaneously—staying sharp as a trader, consistently producing high-quality educational videos, and developing and maintaining complex platforms like PivotCore and BotTradeLab. Another challenge is guiding beginners away from the "quick profit" mindset toward disciplined, analytical trading. Overcoming these challenges taught me the power of time management, building systematic workflows, and creating technology that can support thousands of traders at scale.

Looking back, is there anything you would do differently?

Looking back, every challenge taught me something valuable that shaped Binary Campus into what it is today. If I were to do anything differently, I might have started integrating custom software tools alongside my educational content even earlier, because combining visual learning with practical tools has made a massive difference for our community.

Insights for aspiring Deriv Partners

His insights for new partners draws on the same process that shaped Binary Campus: identify a useful skill, share it clearly, and keep responding to what people need.

For someone who's passionate about trading and wants to build an online community or become a Deriv Partner, what advice would you give them based on your own experience?

Focus on adding genuine value first. Find your unique strength, whether it's simplifying chart analysis, teaching platform setups, or building tools, and share it passionately. When you focus on truly helping people understand how to trade better and manage their risk on Deriv, your audience will trust you, and your growth as a Deriv Partner will happen naturally.

What do you think matters more when starting out: having a large audience or consistently creating valuable content?

Consistently creating valuable content matters 100% more. Every creator starts with zero subscribers. Even if your first videos only reach a small group of people, if the content is genuinely helpful, like a clear tutorial on candlestick patterns or platform setup, the algorithm and the community will eventually reward you. Value is what builds a large audience, not the other way around.

What's next for Binary Campus?

Kavindu’s plans bring education and development together once again, with further software updates and new tutorials forming the next stage of Binary Campus.

Finally, what's next for Binary Campus? Are there any exciting projects, new tools, or goals you're working toward as you continue growing your community and your partnership with Deriv?

We have some very exciting plans ahead. We are continuously upgrading PivotCore and BotTradeLab with smarter market data analytics, enhanced automation capabilities, and even more refined risk-management features to make trading easier for busy people. On the educational side, we are working toward passing the 100,000-subscriber milestone on YouTube while launching new, in-depth tutorial series covering Deriv's latest features, MT5 strategies, and TradingView workflows.

Where can people follow your work and stay updated on your latest content?

Anyone interested in learning with us can subscribe to the Binary Campus channel on YouTube and join our official Binary Campus Telegram community, where we share all our latest tutorials, updates on PivotCore and BotTradeLab, and daily insights for traders.

Kavindu’s account of building Binary Campus shows how community questions can shape an evolving business. A difficulty raised in a comment can become a tutorial topic; a recurring challenge can inspire a software feature. That ongoing exchange between teaching, listening, and building connects the different parts of his work.
